What's New with TWS
We want to share news about what is happening at TWS and with our members.

End of Summer Member Meeting
September 28
TWS is honored to present guest speaker Daniel Heyden, son of tapestry artist Silvia Heyden (1927-2015), who will speak about his mother’s artistic legacy. Swiss-born Silvia Heyden started out in fiber arts in the School of Applied Arts in Zurich in the late 1940’s. She trained with Bauhaus master Johannes Itten. Her peers were the likes of Olga de Amaral and Anni Albers. In 1966, the Heyden family moved to Durham, NC. By that time, Silvia had already experimented with various tapestry techniques and found her artistic calling. In the upcoming talk, we will learn about her deep love for music and nature, and how these personal influences resonate in the improvisational nature of her work. We invite you to join us in this rare opportunity to gain an intimate view of Silvia’s oeuvre: her sketchbooks, inspirations and thoughts through the lens of Daniel Heyden, author of "Movement in Tapestry". Dan Heyden is an architect based in Metuchen, NJ and together with his sister, the two are the main keepers of Silvia Heyden’s legacy. Dan is particularly interested in the relationship between the drawings and the finished works that provide a unique insight into Silvia's process.
This virtual event is only open to current TWS members.
